JAH BENG – RIVER OF HEALING (Kornerstone Productions)

This is one of those albums that makes you sit up and say, “but wait, a who dat?” Jah Beng utilizes a smooth flowing roots reggae kind of vibe tempered with well-placed horns to entice his listeners! . Strong production and clean precise delivery of well-written tracks raises the stakes for this singer/songwriter. The firm baseline does not hurt either. “River of Healing” as an item for consumption, is suited for any occasion. Standouts include “Ethiopia,” “Jahovah,” “More Fire,! ” “Your Friend,” and “Revolutionary War.” Jah Beng’s jazzy reggae flavoured rendition of “Biggest Part of Me” is superbly handled in winning form. It is always refreshing to see/hear a sturdy creation coming from an unexpected source as with this disk.
